About Easter

It begins with the Passover celebrated by the Jews today, during which, according to the Christian faith, Jesus Christ was crucified and resurrected in Jerusalem in the 1st century (the exact date is disputed, between 27-33 AD). The Passover is celebrated by the Jews, both in the past and today, as a sign of liberation from Egyptian captivity, and in particular, the episode described in the Old Testament, when God separated his people from the calamity sent on the Egyptians, the massacre of the first-born children, through the blood of a goat. According to Christian teaching, that event was a sign of Jesus Christ’s (Lamb of God) acceptance of voluntary death and the shedding of his blood for the salvation of mankind.
